Vivian Ferry, Russ Holmes, Sang-Hyun Oh: Chirality Induction from Photonic Structures to Transition Dipole Moment of Organic Dyes

Dissymmetry in circularly polarized photoluminescence from films of CdSe/CdS nanocrystals on chiral metamaterials.

The goal of this Seed project is to study chirality transfer between plasmonic nanomaterials and achiral thin films. Chirality transfer is an exciting area where polarization-selective properties are observed in achiral materials; here chirality transfer will be quantified using circular dichroism and circularly polarized photoluminescence. This seed project will particularly focus on the effect of material processing on chirality transfer, and will combine nanofabrication, advanced materials deposition and processing, characterization, and electromagnetic modeling.
