UMN MRSEC Postdoctoral Fellowship Program in Honor of Frank Snowden

The UMN MRSEC is pleased to announce the UMN MRSEC Postdoctoral Fellowship Program in Honor of Frank Snowden. Frank Snowden was the Associate Director of Education and Outreach in the Materials Research Science & Engineering Center at the University of Minnesota, from 1998 until 2014. As teacher, mentor, and role model who was passionate about learning, he worked tirelessly to mentor students from all backgrounds and experiences toward careers in science and engineering disciplines. In celebration of his legacy and his enduring commitment to diversity and inclusion at the University of Minnesota, and consistent with the mission of the University of Minnesota's Office of Equity and Diversity, this fellowship aims to enhance diversity in our center and thus we particularly encourage applications from Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) candidates.

Within the collaborative and cross disciplinary environment of the UMN MRSEC, Snowden fellows will engage in exciting research projects aligned with IRG 1: Ionic Control of Materials, IRG-2: Mesoscale Network Materials, or a Seed Project. Fellows will additionally participate in a variety of MRSEC professional and career development opportunities, including workshops about topics such as building an inclusive climate, dealing with conflict, self-advocacy, as well as networking opportunities with visiting academic and industrial scientists, and specific preparation for future academic careers. Additionally, fellows will have opportunities to act as mentors and role models for young learners (K-12 through undergraduate) through participation in a suite of outreach activities.

Fellowship applications will be evaluated on an ongoing basis by the UMN MRSEC Executive Committee, with an intended fellowship term of two years. Fellows will receive an annual salary of up to $60,000 for this 12-month, 100%-time position, including University health and dental insurance benefits.

Qualified applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science or an allied area by the beginning of the Fellowship period. US citizenship or permanent resident status are not required.
